Trumped Lessons For Us

Historically ‘’trumping’’ her exit.

Left to many of the world’s population, the 45th President of the United States should have been Hillary Clinton but American’s have proven the world wrong. Donald Trump is the next President of the world’s most powerful nation. Certainly this will have implications for civic space, race, parenting, disability, gender, religion, trade, immigration and foreign policy.

The race to the White House was no doubt fraught with lots of tensions, permutations, superstitions and predictions.  As commentators come up with various analysis on what worked and did not work for both candidates, I think there are few lessons to be learnt including what the 2016 US election results will or has ‘’trumped’’ up for the world.

Race is still a big issue in politics.

Much as democracy sounds good in theory, we will continue to be divided by our diversity. We cannot continue to wish away issues around race and ethnicity; they are an important element in any competition. We need to find a way to deal with this in our continued existence as humans.

Those who benefit the most from a system are often lazy to protect that system.

As can be seen from the voter turnout, more whites came out to vote (as always) than Blacks and Latinos whom from my knowledge of America are the group of people that benefits the most from the system in terms of social security, Obamcare and other social services. This speaks a lot as to how this group of people view elections including how they make important decisions that will affect their lives. Does education or lack of it play any role here?

The gender game will not always work.

Despite having the credentials for being a President, majority of Americans I am sure did not buy the gender game, what was important to them are the real issues facing their country today. Gender activists will have to up their strategy by ensuring that in politics and business both men and women have credentials and support networks to attain their full potentials. Sentiments around gender don’t seem to be working as can also be seen from what happened with the selection of the United Nation’s Secretary General.

Bullying as a strategy to get to the top, while you may tell your children bullying is bad maybe it’s also time to start seeing bullying as part of a strategy to achieve your goals in a dominated society. To achieve his goal, Trump fought against party politics, corporate America, mainstream and social media including long standing institutions that have dominated American politics for centuries. In achieving this he was rude, brutal, harsh and bullied as many of them as possible. He didn’t wait to be given power; he fought for it and won. I agree bullying is bad but does it play any role in attaining your goal or getting power in a dominated field? What do we tell our children about Trumps bad behaviours and how this still earned him the most revered position in the world?

America has always portrayed its self as a land of the free but outcomes of this election has shown that majority of American’s are in support of Trump’s policies and views on immigration, Islam and disability. The world cannot continue to see America as portrayed by its government and media as free, we now have to see America the way Americans see their own country.

A Trump win, will bring about a radical shift in foreign policies of many countries and polarise the UN further.

Countries will now have to review their foreign policies as it regards America. The UN will be the hardest hit and I pity members of the Security Council who most times will be bullied by this present day America. Wait a minute I may be wrong as President Putin of Russia seems to be a fan of Trump, didn’t Trump say they were friends? I am sensing a much more polarised Security Council already and who knows maybe this is the time the much touted UN reform will work either for good or for bad. China certainly has a more defined role now.

For people of faith, now is the time to pay a close attention to events that will mark the end of this system of things.

Is Armageddon here already? While no one knows the time or day, certainly events as they play out now points to a world of more chaos and tensions except those views and policy propositions made by Trump during his campaign were just a ‘’locker room’’ talk.

Until then, let Hillary start planning her exit from America-seeking for asylum in Nigeria as I won’t like seeing her in jail. I keenly look forward to Professor Wole Soyinka shredding his Green Card and Prophet TB Joshua explaining to his congregation at the next service why Hillary did not win including CNN, Times and Economist apologising to their audience for making them believe their polls.

  1. I couldn’t help laughing at the sarcasm frequently used.. . But this is the real deal America and the rest of the world must contend with

  2. This is way beyond my comprehension. I personally believe the best for the position won – irrespective of whatever we think may happen at the end.
Armageddon, War, end of system or end of the world itself…
Let’s see what happens anyways – it may just be totally off our thoughts and presumptions…

If America collapses – then the whole world is left in limbo.
