MAKING IT BETTER: Battle Fatigue…..I Need Some Respite!

I have spent the past couple of weeks in various states of extreme emotions. I have swung from fury, to bewilderment, to shock, to defiance, to hope, to fear, to dejection, to gratitude. This was just in response to watching the American Republican and Democratic Conventions! Prior to these two weeks, during and subsequently, these emotions were further amplified reading all the many stories of extreme gender based violence taking place globally. Add to this all the senseless terrorist attacks and killings of innocent people abroad and closer home, as well as the recent spate of racism and xenophobia growing following Brexit in the UK; and guess what? I’m all tapped out!

This became more poignant to me when last night unbeknownst to me, my eldest daughter had come into my room in the wee hours of the morning and took a picture of me. When I woke up later in the day I noticed all the paraphernalia surrounding me that I had gone to bed with the night before had been removed and I had been tucked into bed. My daughter later came to show me the picture she had taken of me. I looked like a crazy person! I had nodded off, my glasses were sitting tilted on my face, I was flanked by both my laptops, FOX station was spurting out its biased claptrap on the TV, the radio was on, and newspapers were strewn across my bed. I tell you, it was not a pretty sight! Talk about an assault on my senses and excess stimuli.

When I saw this I decided, even if it’s just for a moment (because there is a war going on), I must remember to intersperse the fighting with more moments of healing, promoting love and unity. There are so many battles to fight at the moment, that if we don’t remember to breathe and come away from the toxicity of all this negative engagement, we run the risk of being consumed by it. So today is about healing, prayer, affirmations, humour. Please join me.

I Wish You Enough

I wish you enough SUN to keep your attitude bright

I wish you enough RAIN to appreciate the sun more

I wish you enough HAPPINESS to keep your spirit alive

I wish you enough PAIN so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger

I wish you enough GAIN to satisfy your wanting

I wish you enough LOSS to appreciate all that you possess

I wish you enough ‘HELLOS’ to get you through the final ‘GOODBYE’ –

How far you go in life depends on your:

Being tender with the young,

Compassionate with the aged,

Sympathetic with the striving,

Tolerant of the weak and strong,

Because someday in your life

You will have been all of these.

                                            – George Washington Carver

Healing Prayer

Healing is a return to wholeness

Healing is a return to love

In the stillness of my heart

I AM WHOLE

I am already healed

God has blessed my life with so many miracles

My body is a miracle

My heart is a miracle

I am so much more than my illness

It no longer defines me

I AM FREE

I am a soul expanding beyond the horizon

I trust in the loving intelligence that created me

Love returns me to wholeness

A complete restoration of the heart

– Cecilia Kinzie

I’ve learned that people will forget what you said,

People will forget what you did,

But people will never forget

How you made them

FEEL

As soon as healing takes place,

Go out and heal somebody else

– Maya Angelou

Because you have Lived

To laugh often and much

To win respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children

To earn the appreciation of honest critics

To appreciate beauty

To find the best in others

To leave the world a bit better

Whether by a healthy child,

Or a garden patch

To know even one life has breathed easier

Because you have lived

This is to have succeeded

God Has a Dream

Dear child of God, I write these words because we all experience sadness, we all come at times to despair and we lose hope that the suffering in our lives and in the world will never end. I want to share with you my faith and my understanding that this suffering can be transformed and redeemed. There is no such thing as a totally hopeless case. Our God is an expert at dealing with chaos, with brokenness, with all the worst that we can imagine. God created order out of chaos and God can do so always, can do so now, in our personal lives, and in our lives as nations, globally…Indeed God is transforming the world now through us, because God loves us.

The Inimitable Archbishop Desmond Tutu

  1. God is a loving Father who is always ready to heal. He heals both believers and unbelievers out of His own magnanimity, He’s a just God! That’s who Gos really is

  2. We really should strive always to see the positive things in the world despite all its ills, we may be lost if we refused ourselves this simple luxury

  3. Stress, the principal cause – is just unavoidable. All we need is God’s mercy through our endeavors.

  5. I’ve had days i failed to take dinners, I’ve had nights with my doors wide open, nights when my jean and denim served the purpose of pyjamas … In short , i just can’t tell it all…. All we truly need is God … He didn’t say the journey would be easy – but did promise a safe end. Let’s keep up the faith and hope it’s worth the “Process”.
