Five Tips to Help You Overcome Abuse Relationships

A young lady was rushed into the hospital looking all shattered with wounds all around her face, she had swollen eyes, and appeared to have had a terrible accident.

Before the treatment, she was investigated to know the root cause of the accident but guess what? She was beaten by her boyfriend.

From the records, it shows that this wasn’t the first time but the guy in question had always been violent to her and unfortunately, she refused to quit the relationship simply because she claimed to love him.

Now, that’s the case with most people in abusive relationships. They find it difficult to quit despite the pain they go through.

The victim may stay for practical or emotional reasons including feelings of love and attachment, fear of public shame, economic factors, or a fear of retaliation for leaving, through physical violence or homicide.

Relationship violence is the physical, emotional, or verbal abuse of one partner by the other partner in a dating or marriage relationship which is aimed at hurting the other person.

Abusive relationships have a great effect on your mental health, emotional well-being, and life in general.

It can take many forms, including physical violence, coercion, threats, intimidation, isolation, and emotional, sexual, or economic abuse.

Below are a few tips to help you overcome abusive relationships.

1. SEE BEYOND LOVE.

It’s true that both you and your partner once achieved a milestone together and that feeling of love and attachment is natural to be there but you have to take the courage to see beyond love and walk away. 

You can’t continue to love someone who constantly abuses you in the relationship.

2. REDISCOVER YOURSELF.

Being in an abusive relationship can make you lose your identity and self-worth but rediscovering your purpose and self-identity helps you to overcome an abusive relationship. 

 Learn a skill, get a job, and be more productive with your life.

3. DESIST YOUR PAST LIFE.

After quitting your abusive relationship, resist the urge to go back to that terrible experience. I know you feel you can fix it but you’ve done that several times and it didn’t work so move on with your life.

4. LIMIT YOUR COMMUNICATIONS.

Just in case you already had kids with your ex-husband/boyfriend who abused you, there’s every tendency that you will keep communication due to the kids but ensure you keep it short.

5. GIVE YOUR HEART A CHANCE TO LOVE AGAIN.

After you’ve taken time to get healed from an abusive relationship, you need to also give love a chance again. Not every man or woman is violent so be open to experiencing love once again.
