The Rotary Club, Abuja, Gwarinpa, yesterday handed over N1.6m empowerment centre to unemployed women and young girls that further their studies due to one or two challenges.

The president of the club, Constance Okeke, who led other philanthropic dignitaries to the commissioning of a project where the women would be learning different skills, said Rotary was planning to have many of such centres across the country.

She enjoined well-meaning members of the club and other Nigerians to always help the needy in their environment, saying such a gesture would drastically reduce poverty in our society.

“We have young girls that can’t further their studies, we want them to get equipped with different skills before they are married out,” Okeke said.

The governor-elect, Rtrn Ayoola Oyedokun, who represented the district governor, said: “One thing is sure, these children cannot decide what is going to be available for them to learn, it is the parent that can decide how to make things easier for them.”

The Chief of Gwarimpa, Alhaji Yakubu Bayero, represented by Prince Umar Bayero, said members of the club had done greatly for the community especially during the pandemic.
