African Women Development Fund {AWDF} on the 13th of July, gathered her stakeholders to discuss the development of women in Nigeria. These stakeholders are past grantees and present grantees of AWDF, it’s a time for appraisal of the grantees and the organisation in developing the way forward. It’s been a period of inspection in Nigeria for AWDF as they visited different states in Nigeria to check up on their grantees and meet with them.

The meeting had in attendance different NGOs focused on women and girl child rights in the local communities.  They shared their burdens and explained how difficult the cause has been for them. They narrated that most times there aren’t enough funds to take care of pressing needs which can be very discouraging.

The guest speaker at the event was Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, Co-founder, AWDF and CEO Abovewhispers.com. She addressed the women on the need to be ready to follow through with their passion and heartfelt desires to making the community a better place for women. She advised the women to continue to be reputable, women she can vouch for because integrity is expedient in this cause.

Furthermore, She told the women that the cause is more than just a combination of NGOs but a movement. A movement is beyond the gathering of NGOs but it’s an effective work of people with similar interests in making sure that a desired goal is reached. She also emphasised that AWDF has so many organisations to reach so the burden is much but the grantees should understand that patience is key and also partner with AWDF.

Women at the event had a great time as they shared their burdens and were enlightened on how they their desired goals can be reached. According to them, it’s a rare opportunity to have the AWDF listen to them and their needs, especially having the Co-founder with them to appreciate them and kick them to do more for the nation.
