Rant Of The Day – Time Wasters

By Grace Shaibu

Welcome to the rant column

When you want to host an event, please consider the time you want to fix wholeheartedly, it is important. Some people will put in 10am as the start time and only for them to begin at 1pm? Really? 1pm? what happened to the 10am? I know Africans don’t know how to keep to time a lot but then, it’s important to understand that time is something really precious to every human being.

someone waiting

Why would you fix 10am, 12noon only to show up at 3pm? It’s wrong. If you won’t be certain of the time, don’t fix it. Write in that people should arrive early enough. That’s better said than being a time waster to other people.

There are other categories of people who just love to come late. An event is slated for 1pm and they arrive by 4pm. Please how else would you quantify the lateness. If you have the notion that an event will always begin late then we cannot solve this epidemic. We should learn to keep to time everyday and every time.

This issue of time is something that should be corrected by those who never keeps to time. Lateness has cost someone very close to me a lot. It was a mistake that can never be corrected. Hence I learnt from her mistake.

Lateness has been justified with the phrase African Time. I hope the mindset changes.

In Nigeria we have a popular saying of Africa Time. It’s really bad when an event slated for 10am begins by 12 noon. It discourages people from going early for programs and events.
