Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, Emmanuel Tagwai of Development and Peace Initiative (DPI) stressed the need for greater resource mobilisation for EVAW projects.

According to Tagwai, violence against women impacts on and impedes progress in many areas including poverty eradication, combating HIV/AIDS as well as peace and security.

“We stand in solidarity with survivors while investing in prevention of and responding to root cause of gender-based violence in the areas of education for the girl-child, empowerment for women with focus on adolescent girls as well as concerns of early/or forced marriage through addressing harmful norms and stereotypes that often perpetuate in Kaduna.

“Throughout the world, women and girls are still being beaten at home, sexually and economically exploited, assaulted on our streets or at work, raped, mutilated or forced to marry.

“Women and girls are also particularly vulnerable in situations of conflict and emergency, when violence, extortion, trafficking, exploitation and many forms of gender-based violence escalates; millions of women and girls are forced to leave their homes.
