The woman, a casual labourer and resident of Akolodongo village, Malaba Town Council in Tororo District, was arrested on Monday at her home after she allegedly trafficked two young girls to neighbouring Kenya.

The woman is suspected to have taken advantage of the victims who are of tender age after promising them well-paying jobs in Kenya, where they were to work as house maids.

The Bukedi regional police spokesperson, Mr Sowali Kamulya, confirmed the recruitment of the young girls for domestic jobs in Kenya.

The suspect, with the help of a Somali woman, has also been reportedly recruiting young girls to other countries for similar odd jobs.

“We have arrested her over human trafficking of two young girls. We are still interrogating her to get more details,” Mr Kamulya, said

According to police, the victims went missing in August, prompting their parents to report the matter to Malaba Police Station.

“We started our investigation and we got information that the victims are in Kenya,” he said.

Parents with missing children in the neighbourhood have been asked to report to police so that the suspect is interrogated further.
