ACCUSATIONS of infidelity have cost a 34-year-old Windhoek woman marital bliss after her irate husband assaulted her on his return from consulting a witch doctor at Okahandja Park.
The witch doctor, George Daniel, had allegedly told the man that his wife was seeing someone behind his back.
The couple, who asked not to be named, accompanied City Police officers to Daniel’s ‘surgery’ at Okahandja Park, where the woman wanted clarification on his claims.
According to the man, he had sought the witch doctor’s advice because he was experiencing problems in their year-old marriage.
“He told me that my wife was having an affair with someone I know very well. This made me so furious that when I went home, I beat her,” the husband explained.
The woman said she was shocked when her husband beat her on Sunday morning, and she decided to call the police.
“My husband is a sweet and soft-hearted person, but ever since he met this witch doctor, he has transformed and beaten me. I do not want to end up being killed because of this witch doctor’s lies. I am even scared about my husband’s wellbeing because he tried to commit suicide twice after he visited this charlatan,” the woman charged.
Her husband said the things he had been told about his wife had become too much to bear that he felt like seeking solace in taking his own life.
“The witch doctor said I must pay him N$4 000 so that he can make the man who was sleeping with my wife disappear. I asked him how he was planning to do this, and he said he will make him fall into a hole and die,” the man said.
City Police public relations officer Edmund Khoaseb said these are some of the things which drive men into killing women.
“We want to warn the so-called unregistered witch doctors and traditional healers who are misleading people just to make money or for reasons known only to them that the net is closing in on them.
But Daniel was adamant that he is a man who only helps people with problems, and does not create problems for people.
“I remember that man coming to me, but it was for a different problem. He claimed that he could not sleep, and that he was having a pain in his gut. So, I just gave him something to cure him. The stories he is talking about are not true,” he insisted.
