Speaking to staff at the Nation Centre last Friday, Mr Kiboro attributed the award to hard work and diligence by journalists and web producers in coming up with innovative ways of story-telling given the dynamic shift in media consumption currently.

“Winning continental awards is no mean feat because we beat giants in the industry,” Mr Kiboro adding he was proud that in the digital era, NMG was leading from the front said.

NMG Editor-in-Chief, Mr Tom Mshindi, congratulated the staff on performing exemplarily at the awards where Nation news website (Nation.co.ke) took the first place while NTV Wild and My Network were placed second in the Best Use of Online Video category and Best Reader Engagement category respectively.

The first place was shared with Times Media of South Africa.

“We are delighted with our performances at the continental awards and we shall maintain this for the next years to come,” Mr Mshindi said.

Nation Media’s Digital Managing Editor, Mr Churchill Otieno, said: “This award is a recognition of the immense talent the Nation Media Group prides itself in. It is testament to the professionalism and dedication to public duty with which Nation journalists and Web producers go about their duties.”

Smriti Vidyardhi of NTV Wild said she was humbled by the awards.

“I am delighted that we have achieved this, we shall continue to highlight stories that positively impact on humanity,” Smriti pledged.

My Network’s Njoki Chege said the awards were humbling and that as a group they would continue producing audience-centred content.

Six NMG products were nominated early this month as finalists for the Africa Digital Media Awards (2016).

The awards by Wan Ifra, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, will be the first in Africa and will discuss digital innovations on the continent, in line with global media focus which is moving towards digital platforms.

Wan Ifra said the awards, which were dominated by media outlets in Kenya and South Africa, will celebrate the finest talent across the industry.

The awards recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major changes in how people consume news and information today.
