Investigations were ongoing yesterday into the suspected death of a police officer and his daughter through poisoning.

UGANDA

As the police sought for answers regarding the death of Assistant Inspector of Police Charles Oriku and his daughter Rebecca Onduru, 16, his other eight-year-old daughter was by press time fighting for her life at Kawolo Hospital where the duo was confirmed dead.

Sezibwa region police spokesman Lameck Kigozi said the incident has clouded countrywide preparations to launch the police week ahead of the Centenary Day celebrations during which the Force would be giving back to the community.

The late Oriku, hailing from Kijomoro in Maracha District, has been working with Masaka Central Police Station. He had built a house at Kayanja village, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, hoping to settle here.

That hope has now been brutally extinguished by events which shocked residents of Lugazi Cable Village where he and two of his children were staying.

Unconfirmed talk in Lugazi Town suggested that this may be a crime of passion involving a suspected misunderstanding with one of his wives.

The deceased’s brother, Mr Togo Isenke, confirmed that the officer has been having some misunderstandings with one his wives but said there is no evidence to suggest that this was connected to the poisoning.
