NURHI Promotes Family Planning Among Lagos Residents

In furtherance of its commitment to improving the quality of family planning service provision across Lagos State, the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative, NURHI, has urged Lagos residents to embrace family planning so as to improve their quality of life.

Meanwhile, the organisation has commenced the renovation and equipping of Family Planning, FP Clinics in selected Primary Healthcare Centres, PHC in 23 LCDAs, under the initiative tagged, ’72-hour-makeover”.

Speaking at the commissioning of newly renovated Family Planning Clinic in Oshodi PHC,Sole Administrator of Oshodi-Isolo LGA, Taoheed Taiwo said they have embarked on mass enlightenment on the need for proper Family Planning to improve the health and living condition of the general public.

The Head of Administration, Agege, LGA, Mrs. Mayowa Ikuforiji expressed satisfaction with NURHI’s efforts during the commissioning FP Clinic at Sango Agege PHC, “I would like to thank NURHI for this initiative, it is really amazing to see the clinic take a new look, just within 72 hours.

On his part, the Lagos State Team leader NURHI, Dr Edun Omasanjuwa said that the idea behind the project was to increase quality, and access to FP among women and men of reproductive age in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

“Our aim is to support 50 health facilities in 23 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos state and the selection is based on what we call high volume site. Areas with highest population of women of reproductive age, we believe those are the people who should be priority on our list and those are the people who will need our interventions faster.

“So far we have renovated and supply equipment to 18 of those facilities, we are looking into completing the remaining within the shortest period of time.

“Other than renovation and supply of equipment, we are also training and retraining staff on modern family planning method, improving and building their capacity to be able to provide the services to client.”

“Where family planning become a social norms in our community. Where everybody is free to talk about FP publicly, misconception about family planning are resolved and Contraceptive Prevalence Rate, CPR will rise and at the end of the day, a better family planning will result in improve quality living,” he added.
