Women’s Representation in Parliament – Algeria Ranks 29th Worldwide

 Algeria is ranked 29th worldwide in female representation in the parliament said Monday, in Ain Temouchent, the Deputy Minister to the Minister of National Planning, Tourism and Craft Industry, in charge of Craft Industry Aicha Tagabou.

Speaking at the opening of the UNFA Summer University, the minister said that thanks to the latest revision of the Constitution, decided by the President of the Republic, this representation reached the 30%, or 145 elected women on a total of 462 deputies.

While highlighting the importance of the topics to be discussed in this three-day meeting, Aicha Tagabou insisted on the role that women must take to meet the challenges facing the county.

The opening ceremony of this summer university, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, El Hadi Ould Ali, local authorities and representation of the union in 37 provinces, was marked by the speech of the Secretary General of the UNDA Nouria Hafsi, who shared the minister’s view, recalling that Algeria ranks first in the Arab world and ties with Rwanda in Africa in terms of women’s representation in the parliament.
